- Captain Robert S. Foster, commander of a company of mounted men in Gwinnett County, Georgia, writes to Georgia Governor George R. Gilmer (1829-1831, 1837-1839) on September 23, 1837 to inform him that his men can be ready within five days notice if they are needed to guard the frontier of Georgia against Florida Indians (ostensibly the Seminoles).

Dear Sir
If there should be a requisition this season for mounted men to defend the frontiers of Georgia from [added text: Florada ] indians depredations as here to for -- I have the pleasure to inform you that there has been a company of [unclear text: Horse ] men organized in this County & can be in readiness for service in five days provided [unclear text: these services ] should be require of them & if this proposition should meet with your approbation please inform me of it at your convenience
