- This is a letter dated March 28, 1836 from Benjamin F. Currey, to Governor William Schley (Governor of Georgia, 1835-1837) regarding an enclosed letter (which does not survive with this letter) that Currey wants the governor to read and then forward to Colonel Joel Yancy at Fort King. Yancy, Currey points out, was once assigned to the Cherokee service but was transferred at Currey's suggestion to a position as an officer associated with the removal of the Seminoles.

Gov Schley will confer a singular favour [favor] on the undersigned by reading then sealing & by the first conveyance sending the enclosed letter to Colo [Colonel] Joel Yancy at Fort King
Colo [Colonel] Yancy was for a while in the Cherokee service upon the recommendation of the Honl [Honorable] Jno [John] Bell & others but was upon my suggestion transferred to the seminole service as an officer connected with the removal of that tribe
I saw the letter about which I make the inquiry & have the word of the Colo [Colonel] that he never received a reply but wants it in writing
