His Excellency, Governor Clark
Sir-
It is no doubt known to your Excellency that we have been appointed Commissioners [document damaged: on ] the part of the United States to hold a treaty with the Cherokee Nation of Indians. In order that you may be apprised of the progress which we are making upon a subject interesting to yourself and our Citizens generally, we beg leave to state that we have Corresponded with the War department, and also with the Cherokee Agent, & upon the information thus acquired we have determined to invite the Indians to a convention on the
15th.. January next, at the Cherokee Agency on the Hiwassee River.

We have the honor to be yr. [your] Excellencies Obt. Sevts. [Obedient Servants]
