His Excellency Wm Rabun
Govr. [Governor] of Ga.
Sir,
I have received a confidential Letter from a friend in East Florida stating that that County is entirely over run by Indians who breath vengeance against the Americans -- that a brisk Trade is carrying on with them in St Augustine that there are upwards of two thousand Settled in various parts of the Province. . the greatest number at a place called Beresford about one hundred & fifty miles up the River St. John's -- -- that an old Chief of the Chehaw Town has been lately in St Augustine much exasperated at the conduct of Captn. [Captain] Wright --
As this is from a Source on which I can place full reliance I thought it would be proper to inform you of it... I am not personally acquainted with you, but I am known to Mr Hammond your Secy. [Secretary] of State & I was also known to the late Governor to whom I used to communicate any thing that I thought for the benefit of the State & I conceive that the Justices of the Infr. different Counties are the guardians of the public tranquility & that it becomes their duty to inform the Executive of any thing that may affect the vital Interest of the State, & the Safety of its Inhabitants --
I have written to Genl [General] John Floyd & to Major Wm Baily acquainting them with these facts --
In case of any publication of any parts of my Letter to you, I do not wish my name to be made public, but Shall be satisfied with having done my duty & keeping an eye on the affairs of Florida for the mutual benefit of that & this Country.

I am Sir Yours very respectfully
