To his Excellency Governor D.B. Mitchell
Dr. [Dear] Sir
I am once more compeld [compelled] to soliset [solicit] your ade [aid] on a subject to which you are no stranger and the magnitude of the object to an individual will plead my appology [apology] for being importunate -- I beleave [believe] sir that no individual of this state, whether as Chief majesty or as a Citizen has been more prompt in using your best [unclear text: Exertions ] To have our property restord. [restored] which was taken and yet is kept from us by the Creek indeans [indians] - the spirit of that people is brok [broke] and I hope both them and there Chief Colo [Colonel] Hawkens will be Compeld [Compelled] to do us Justice. Wm [William] Crawford is secretary at war from whom we have good reason to Expect ample Justice -- I have lately heard from my fellow Hector who with seven of his family could be [unclear text: brought ] of [off], but not without som [some] danger- I am unwiling [unwilling] To use any violence without it being sanctiond [sanctioned] by you. If it would not be presuming Too much on your Excellencys goodness I would request that you would cause me to be informd [informed] what is the situation of my claim and what is necessary for me to do to regain my property. I need say nothing to you as relates to the Time We have been Kept out of this property and of my own personal Exurtions [Exertions] to regain it and had the [unclear text: Colo [Colonel] ] been as Clever in complying as of making promises I beleave [believe] my negroes would have long since been restord [restored] -- I have the honer [honor] to be
