- This document is a letter from Major General David Adams to Governor of Georgia Peter Early (1813-1815), dated May 20, 1814. Adams informs Early that he had ordered spies to be sent into the Oakfuskee settlements of the Creek Nation (on the Tallapoosa River) and though they did not penetrate as far as had been hoped, it is thought that they have learned valuable information. Adams had agreed to pay the spies forty dollars each for their services.

Dear sir
I enclose your Excellency the report of the Spies who I sent to the Tallapoosee under your order of the
26th april last they did not go as far as I directed them, but I think they have got al [all] the information that you expected the war in that quarter seems to be at an end
I believe I informed you that I agreed with them at fourty [forty] dollars each
I am with due esteem your humble servant
