Personally appeared John A. Williams and after being duly Sworn Saith; that Some time early in
October 1813 he was in the Town of Hartford at which [added text: time ] he understood that Jas [James] A Everitt (one of the [unclear text: Copartners ] of Montford & Everitt &. Co.) had Recently Braught [Brought] a Drive of Cattle from the Creek Nation that he went over the Oakmulgee and Saw the Cattle; When this deponent returnd [returned] he Saw Severel [Several] Indians Comeing [Coming] out of Montfort & Everitts Store with packs of goods does not know the entire Contents of the packs; that he went into Butlers store, and while there; Jas [James] A. Everitt Came into Said Store in Company with Some Indians Which had Several Bars of lead hanging in their belts; that Said Everitte asked the Clerk to weigh him Some More Powder he did So; Everitte received it and Carried it off the Deponent further States that on the Same day he was talking with John Winslet who appeard [appeared] to be interested in the Cattle which this deponent Saw on the other Side of the Oakmulgee he asked Said Winslet Some questions Conserning [Concerning] the Hostile Indians Winslett told him thare [there] was danger in traviling [traveling] among the Indians at that time; that a white mans Skalp [Scalp] had been Braught [Brought] through one of the Towns a Short time before Said Winslet left thare [there] ; that the Indians were [unclear text: holding ] their war Dances; and it

was Certain that a Number of them who had professed to be friendly had taken the war Clubs and further the deponent Saith [added text: that Winslet told him ] [deleted text: [illegible text] ] that the Skalp [Scalp] Alluded too was Carried through one of the Towns Where Said Everette had purched [purchased] the Cattle and further this deponant [deponent] Saith not
