Sir
I take the liberty to write you a few lines in consequence of the rash conduct of your Citizens of hartford toward the freindly [friendly] indians down below on this river near the whole of the red people below me were gone on some time ago to the Ussechau town on Chattohochee waiting there to hear when the trops [troops] from Georgia arrived at Cowetau at wich [which] time were to goe [go] on and Join the friendly Red people and the White troops to Subdue the Enemy red people Some time past I had inform [added text: ation ] from Hartford of horsemen crossing the Ockmulgee and hunting about to kill the red people if they found any, the red people by what I have heard and know to be true have acted very freindly [friendly] to the whites in that quarter have [added text: not ] committed any deprada [added text: tion ] at or near hartford, they have took there cattle down and Cow hides and sold them and returned peaceably

aboute [about] three weaks [weeks] agoe [ago] some Indians got near Hartford with a gang of cattle the whites in Hartford heard of them and were collecting to goe [go] over and kill the red people and take there cattle, Some friendly white people to the Indians went over and met the Indians and informed them of the white peoples Intentions they turned back with there [their] cattle and threw away their cow hides in the woods, three days agoe [ago] I have had information from Hartford it seems perriman a half breed that lives below line at the Juncktion [Junction] of the two rivers flint and Chattahoochee rivers Sent two of his sons down to Hartford with Sixty head of Steers they drove there [their] cattle over the river to trade them of the Hartford Citizens it seems took possession of the cattle took the two red people prisoners and Shut them up kept them confined till the Evening then drove the red peoples horses down to the river and drove them over and in driving them into the river Stuck bayonets into the

Belly of one of the horses turn'd [turned] the Indians oute [out] wich [which] made there Escape over the river they were turnd [turned] oute [out] it Seems by Some of the Whites that were [illegible text] friendly to the red people I was infor'd [informed] a Short time agoe [ago] by [unclear text: be ] Three Gentlemen from Hartford that came up to my house that many of the people in hartford disapproved much of the outrageous conduct of many of the Cittizens [Citizens] of Hartford to the red people and that withoute [without] any Sufficent [Sufficient] cause I hope your Excellency will Excuse my troubling you with this information as have done it with no other view than haveing [having] a wish to keep peace between the Citizens of georgia my native countrey [country] and all the red people that are inclined to be friendly to our Coulter [Culture], from this perhaps your Excely. [Excellency] may Yet cause to inform the people of Hartford that they are wrong in acting as they have without some hostile cause taking place by the red people wich [which] I am convinced of as yet there has been none. I have heard from [unclear text: coctau ] yesterday it Seems the friendly red people there are very uneasy not seeing the wite [white] people there friends coming on to assist them I am much affraid [afraid] Ere long we Shall be all in a dangerous Situation in this country
