I do certify that in conformity to an order of the Honorable the Superior Court of Greene County at last March term, I delivered the body of William Hodge lately detained in the Jail of Hancock County under a charge of Horse stealing; to Moses Spear Esqr. [Esquire] Sheriff of Greene County on the
1st of this Month.

Georgia Greene County
To the Goaler [Jailer] of the Public Goal [Jail] of Hancock County
Whereas William Whalley on his oath states, that William Hodge has been guilty of stealing a certain bay horse the property of Richard Fendleton (commonly called an Indian) David Ray on Oath States, that he saw the aforesaid William Hodge riding the said horse, & William Melton on Oath States that the aforesaid horse is now in his possession & that he verily believes that he was stolen by the said William Hodge.
These are therefore in the name of the State aforesaid to command you, the Jailor of the Goal aforesaid to receive the body of the aforesaid William Hodge into your safe keeping under a charge of horse stealing; so that you have his body to render to the next Superior Court to be held in & for the County of Jackson on the
fourth day of April next.

second day of November, 1798.
