Sir
Being appointed one of the Commissioners of Tenesee District. beg leave to inform your honour [honor], that It appears impractacable [impracticable] to proceed on that Buisiness [Business] before the fall season
The people hear [here] are apprehensive of an indian War. Hostilities are daily Committed in the Vincinities [Vicinities] of Caintuck and Cumberland. Colonels Donilson, Christian, and Several other persons lately Wounded and since dead. Donilson by the Cherokees, and Christian by the Norward Indians.
The Success of the Mussell Shoal Country greatly depends on the Number that will go down to that place. A small force will not be adaquate [adequate] to the risque [risk] and Danger that be to Encounter, and the people hear [here] will not Venture to So dangerous a place with a force
I am inform,d [informed] that reports are gone into your State, that Colo. [Colonel] Donilson was gone out in order to Survey at the Shoals

You will please to be inform'd [informed], that Colo. [Colonel] have left all the Writeings [Writings], papers and every instrument On that head, hear [here] in Franklin; and only intended Out to his family who he Expected to find at Cumberland on there [their] Way to the Shoals, in order also to give notice to some people Waiting at Cumberland That the buisiness [business] would not be Carried on this Spring and could the Surveying have been Transmitted with The utmost propriety. That gentlemen Was possessed of Too much Sagacity to Attempted Such an Enterprize [Enterprise] with the [unclear text: force ] that could have been Collected for that purpose
Your Honour [Honor] Will be pleased to be further Informed, and through you the differant [different] branch [document damaged: es ] of your Government: That no unfare [unfair] advantage Will be Taken [deleted text: [illegible text] ] from this Quarter, No Surveying will be attempted Until a force Sufficent [Sufficient] Can be had, and timely Notice given to those who May intend down, the people in this Quarter Wish To proceed in the fall, but will wait your advice on this Subject -- your Honour [Honor] May rest assured that I shall with pleasure, facilitute [facilitate] everything in my power, that may tend to the Welfare of the Buisiness [Business]
