To The Honourable [Honorable] John Martin Esqr. [Esquire] Governour [Governor] and Commander in Chief of the State of Georgia and the Honourable [Honorable] Excutive [Executive] Council of the Same
The Petition of us the [unclear text: Subscribers ] Inhabitants of Burke County Living on [unclear text: Ogeeha ] & [unclear text: Roky Comfort ] Being Capt Alexr. [Captain Alexander] Irwins District
Humbly Sheweth
That your Petitioners Being frontier Setlers [Settlers] and But fiew [few] in Number and Consequently too fiew [few] in Number to admit of Any Division, Iff [If] we mean to Remain Inhabitants of the Said Districts and as there Has Very Lately Been Considerable Damage Dome By the Indians in our Neighborhood, and some in our District By Indians or others, Which has Alarmd [Alarmed] us [added text: in ] Such A maner [manner] as that Iff [If] We have Not Assistance We Must Remove from our Homes toward Savannah River Which Will Make a new frontier of the other Inhabitans [inhabitants]
We Pray that the Honourable [Honorable] [added text: Council ] Will order that the whole of Capt. [Captain] Irwins Company may Be Ordered to to [to] Do Duty on on [on] the frontiers of their own District and to act in Conjunction With any other Scout that may be ordered to our Assistance to Prevent Inroads of Indians or Others. -- the Scarcity of Grain that takes Place in the State Will Be augmented If we must Remove our familys [families], as We With Good Economy May Support [added text: them ] Where We are, and as there is Not Grain in our Settlement to feed Horses on Constant Duty, We Pray that two men out of this company may Be kept out [deleted text: [illegible text] ] as Spies on the frontier Which We apprehend Will Be of Benefit and Safety to this Settlement, and your Pettioners [Petitioners] as Duty Bound Will Ever Pray
