May 8th 1813
Sir
I Set out my second tower [tour] on friday the
30th Aprl [April] crossed the River and struck Barnetts trail Continued it untill [until] after crossing the second Creek in the Swamp of the latter I discovered Sign of two persons crossing of the path in two places & no other Sign could be discovered in no other part of the path I spent three Day very Industriously in Search no other Sign could be discovered that apeared [appeared] Late & returned Home owing to the Badness of the Wether [Weather] -- On Monday next I shall set out again whitch [which] is as soon as I can cross the waters -- From a statement of Majr. [Major] [illegible text] to me of the conduct of Mr John Holsted to him I Should Consider myself justifiable in acting with, him

As I should with an unfriendly Indian as the Maj. states, that Holsted said was [unclear text: he ] to See us on the other Side of the River he would not hesitate to kill either of Us -- that we only wanted to git [get] a chance to kill Some Poor Indian to bring on a War with Them in order to git thair [get their] land from them for it Was all the Georgians Wanted Was their Land -- He further mentioned if Captin [Captain] Kook was ordered after us that he would be justifiable in taking Us or killing -- The Maj says he replied not When he seen our athority [authority], his Reply was that Coptin [Captain] Cook had no right to to [to] pay aney [any] regard to aney othority [any authority] [deleted text: that ] that we had. As the Governor had no right to Give Us nor other aney sutch othority [any such authority] to cross the River -- I inclose you a coppy [copy] from Mr John [illegible text] a Citizen of Twiggs -- Their [There] is other accounts of Indians being seen but the truth I I [I] want asert [assert]

On the
28th Apil [April] Last I did discover two indians near my plantation armed -- & with packs on their backs and the day after I discovered the sign of Six or Eight more near the same place this I am willing to testify on oath if Called on
