May from Colo [Colonel] Wilkins enclosing [unclear text: sundry ] depositions relative to property [added text: taken ] by Indians from the Inhabitants of the Counties of Franklin and Jackson. A petition from a number of persons residing in the said Counties setting forth that the Indians are daily committing depredations, and praying that they may be allowed a small Guard for the protection of their property and a Letter of the
31 of May from Robert Montgomery enclosing proposals for supplying a Guard should they be called into Service with Rations and forage at the same rates that the Federal Troops are now furnished, and agreeing not to call for advances from the State until his Accounts shall have been passed by the Legislature were taken up.
Whereupon Ordered That Lieut [Lieutenant] Montgomery be authorised [authorized] and [unclear text: directed ]
