- Letter dated (February ?) 24, 1786 from the Cherokee leader Old Tassel to the governor of Georgia concerning attacks upon the Cherokees by whites. Old Tassel reports that Governor John Sevier and his men plundered Cherokee towns, causing the deaths of many Cherokee women and children who hid in the woods to avoid attack. The chief was told that Sevier's men are coming back in the Spring to take hunting grounds, and he has taken precautionary measures, warning other Indian nations. Old Tassel reminds the governor of peace agreements made between the Cherokees and the United States (possibly the Treaty of Hopewell, 1785) and assures the governor that the Cherokees desire friendship.
