- This document is a letter from John Mason, Superintendent of Indian Trade (1807-1816), to Levi Sheftall, U.S. agent in Savannah, Georgia. The letter, dated December 19, 1808, discusses a recent shipment of deer skins received from Sheftall at New York. Mason indicates that the accounts that accompanied the parcel are not in order and asks specifically for information regarding the origin of the skins. He requests clarification on which of the skins came from the Ocmulgee Factory and which came from other factories. Mason also indicates that this information should also be provided to Joseph Lopes Dias, U.S. agent at New York, the likely recipient of the parcels. This letter is probably a reply to krc157. [shipped] on Schooner [unclear text: Rola ] for New York -- on which I am sorry to see there has been so much loss and damage - under same cover were three invoices from the Factory [document damaged] to you of [unclear text: Poltry ] & Fares forwarded [document damaged] -- You dont say whether these con [document damaged] of the deer Skins in the parcell [parcel] [document damaged] shipped which came from that Fac [document damaged: tory ] nor what portion of them came from [document damaged: Oc ] kmulgee -- I beg you will immediately write and informe [inform] me of the accurate proportions of this parcell [parcel]
