- This document is a letter from Peter Hagner, third auditor of the U.S. Treasury Department, to General David B. Mitchell, U.S. agent to the Creek Indians (1817-1821), dated November 13, 1818. Hagner writes in regard to faulty accounting of issues made to the Indians (probably Creek) and requests that Mitchell submit the required abstracts so that the accounts can be settled.

I have been informed by the [illegible text] that of the provisions purchased by the officers of the Army on the failure of the Contractor B. G. Orr, issues have been made to the Indians for which no Abstracts have been made out. As the Contractor is chargeable with all the credit for all issues made out of the purchases. Permit me therefore to request an early transmission of an Abstract accompanied by the original Returns, that the proper credits may be passed.
