Legislature [unclear text: not be called ]
Senate Chamber

On the right [added text: &partially rear ] of the President of the Senate is a life-size portrait of George M. Troup. He appears as seated at his desk in the Executive department, with a pen in his [added text: right ] hand, a map of the Territory of Georgia at his side; a written paper in his left hand and other documents near by. The portrait is evidently intended to represent G [George] M Troup in one of the exciting times during his administration when the federal government attempted to exercise jurisdiction over the Indian territories of Georgia. There is a "By the Eternal" air about the features of the portrait, as marked by the painter as Troup in his day stamped [deleted text: his ] firmness & wisdom upon the measures of his administration.
On the left [added text: & partially rear ] , of the President is the life size portrait of John Clark, former Governor of the State, and the leading political opponent of Gov Troup from
1820 to
1828. As Troup & Clark were able, [added text: & ] gallant leaders in their day, it is well that their portraits [illegible text] stand out in full view of the Senators as exemplars of chivalrous devotion to Georgia
On the [deleted text: side ] wall [added text: on the ] left of the President [deleted text: is ] are life size portraits of Wm. [William] H. Crawford & George Washington --
On opposite wall Thos [Thomas] Jefferson & Gen Jackson -- Jackson in military dress, epaulets, sash, sword &c, &c, [et cetera et cetera]
