- This document is a letter from John C. Calhoun, Secretary of War (1817-1825), to former Creek Indian agent David B. Mitchell (1817-1821), dated July 24, 1821. Calhoun states that he has received a communication from Thomas Crowell, Mitchell's successor as Creek agent, indicating that he has not yet received the books and papers necessary for the operation of the Creek agency. Calhoun urges Mitchell to transmit the materials as soon as possible.

Sir,
I have just received a letter from Colonel Crowell, in which he informs me that he has not yet received of you the books, papers &c [et cetera] belonging to the Creek agency. It is necessary to a due transaction of the business of the agency, of which you must be aware, that he should have them without further delay, and I have to request you will put him in possession of them, as soon after the receipt of this as practicable.
