My dear Sir: [added text (appears to be different hand and ink): 8 [checkmark] ]
As the steam boat Cincinatti's leaving the wharf, I embrace the opportunity of sending you a few lines to enquire after your health, and to say that I am perfectly well: A thousand thanks for your Kindness in sending me the paper, and beg you to continue especially while congress is sitting: There is no news here. [General] Jesup is ready to begin the campaign is a very [added text: wise ] instance of it: " ..

most truly yours
[Signed] [unclear text: A Miles ]
