Description:
This document, dated May 20, 1838, contains orders given by Major General Winfield Scott for the care of Cherokee Indian prisoners during removal from the state of Georgia. It is specified that any sick prisoners are to be given all necessary medical attention, that corn or flour shall be provided where hard bread rations are unavailable, and that Indian horses are to be provided with forage. This portion of the orders appears to have been prepared by Lieutenant Colonel W. J. Worth. Also included is a further order, by command of Brigadier General Floyd, requiring the commander at Cedar Town, Georgia, Captain Isaac S. Vincent, to respect the preceding orders.
