Rebel Town
Sunday Night May 31st 89
Dear Sir/
when I got home I found Colo. [Colonel] Irwin at my hous [house] he informed me that on Monday the 18th Instant, the Indians killed a Mr Jones at [unclear text: Kamps ] fort and a few days after there was the Sign of 14 or 15 more Seen in the Settlement the party that Killed Jones carried off with them a head of horses and a riffle [rifle] Gun [deleted text: and [illegible text] ] the Colo. [Colonel] Is of opinion that the Indians are Still amongst them, I thought it prudent for the Colo. [Colonel] to Return imediatly [immediately], as a Number of the inhabitants are Still at there [their] homes, [deleted text: [illegible text] ] from the Inteligence [Intelligence] from Colo [Colonel] Irwin and from

the appearence [appearance] of the hostile Intentions of the Indians on the whole line of frontiers we have not a moment to looss [lose] in Colecting [Collecting] a force Sufficent [Sufficient] to Check the progress of the Enemy, and to Chastiss [Chastise] them for there [their] Insolence the Colo. [Colonel] Requests that a Suply [Supply] of Powder and Lead may be Sent to him as soon as possible, I Shall wate [wait] your orders and hope that Something desided [decided] will be done for the protection of the frontiers,
