William Cavenagh of the County of Montgomery in the said State being duly sworn maketh Oath That about Christmas last on his return [added text: to his plantation on the Frontier ] he was surprized [surprised] to find four Indians [added text: had ] come to his House & charged him with stealing their Horses -- that while the eldest Indians were thus charging him the two Youngest were [unclear text: hooting ] & screaming in his Yard to the great alarm of his Wife and Child. That the Deponent endeavoured [endeavored] to persuade them he had not meddled with their creatures, which they at first disbelieved telling him they had tracked them to his house & that they must stay there until they found their Horses again and if they did not get their Horses in three weeks they would & must have other Horses to pay for them -- -- [unclear text: That ] the Indians on the Deponents [unclear text: proving ] that he was not concerned by accompanying them on the tract for some Miles where those who had stolen them [deleted text: were ] had halted -- they became more reconciled to

him and told him that they had suspected him of being with one Robert Mitchel who they were certain stole the Horses as he had been at their camp and they knew him well and had tracked him all round the camp with a man in company who they took for his Brother to where they took the Horses & carried them off, and from thence they had tracked them to the Deponents house -- That it is generally allowed that Mictchel was one & some suspect one Daniel [unclear text: Currie ] was the other. Currie is now in Louisville -- The Deponent further saith that he is still apprehensive for his Family & Horses, as the Indian Camp is still there & the Young Indians [unclear text: several nights ] previous to his coming from home came [unclear text: hooting ] & screaming round his house & frightened them much - that he asked [unclear text: Jemmy ] what it meant who answered that his Boys were mad too much about their Horses [unclear text: Jemmy ] had a line from Mr Hawkins to look for Horses which had been
