- Mrs. I. M. Aiken christening the bow of the George W. Crawford, at a ceremonial Liberty ship launching, held in the shipyard of the J.A. Jones Construction Company in Brunswick, Georgia. Men in the background look on. Named for U.S. Representative, Georgia Governor, and Secretary of War under Taylor George Walker Crawford (1798-1872), the ship was the twenty-second constructed in Brunswick by the J.A. Jones Construction Company. Its keel was laid November 16, 1943. The ship was launched January 1, 1944 and delivered January 13, 1944.
