- Aerial view of the construction of the Isaac Shelby at the J.A. Jones Construction Company shipyard in Brunswick, Georgia five days after its keel was laid, January 27. Scaffolding is laid around the entire ship. Scaffolding can also be seen on the right side next to the ship. Workers can be seen inside the ship and on the dock below. Named for frontiersman and first governor of Kentucky Isaac Shelby (1750-1826), the ship was the thirtieth built by the J.A. Jones Construction Company in Brunswick, Georgia. It was launched March 6, 1944 and delivered March 18, 1944.
