- Aerial view of the installation of bottom plates of the hull of the John A. Campbell at the J.A. Jones Construction Company shipyard in Brunswick, Georgia. Workers can be seen on top of the ship. Named for Georgia-born, U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Archibald Campbell (1811-1889), the ship was the eighth constructed in Brunswick by the J.A. Jones Construction Company. Its keel was laid April 13, 1943. The ship was launched August 14, 1943 and delivered August 31, 1943.
