- Description:
- Dalton, ca. 1940. Monument erected to honor Gen. Joseph E. Johnston (1807-1891). It was erected by the Bryan M. Thomas Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy in 1912. The monument is located at the corner of Hamilton and Crawford Streets. Gen. Johnston was put in command of the Army of Tennessee in late December of 1863. These Confederate forces were at that time camped in the Dalton area.
