- Dalton, ca. 1895. Edward Dalton White. He was a native of Massachusetts. He was the representative of a New England real estate syndicate that bought up much of the land that is now Dalton. However, at that time the community was known as Cross Plains. It was on the Western & Atlantic Railroad. In 1847 the town was incorporated as Dalton. Mr. White was responsible for laying out the town. He set aside land for schools, churches, parks, public buildings.
