- Whitfield County, 1861-1865. R. Harrison Nations poses for a photograph in his Confederate uniform. Note his handgun, knife, and rifle. Although he lived in Whitfield County, he enlisted in Co. I, 12th Regiment Louisiana Volunteer Infantry. He was wounded in both legs during the war, and both legs had to be amputated above the knees. After the war, he returned to live in Whitfield County.
