2003/07/18: The "Irvin Guard" of Wilkes County merged into the 11th early in the Civil War, became known as the "Irvin Artillery" (Co. C, 11th Georgia Artillery Battalion.) It became an artillery until on Dec. 12, 1861. The Irvin Guard was "officially" discharged in 1893, but continued to remain active for several more years. - External Identifiers:
