- Sandersville, ca. 1954. The proceeds from the sale of this bale of cotton were donated to the Griffin for governor campaign fund. S. Marvin Griffin was the candidate of the Democratic Party, and he won the election. Joe Slade (right) grew the cotton; C. A. Page (middle) bought it; and Newsome Summerlin received the check on behalf of the Griffin campaign.
