- Sandersville, ca. 1918. Lillian L. Phinizy Elder (Mrs. Thomas J.). She assisted her husband who was the first principal of the Sandersville Industrial School. The school, located on Hall Street, served black students. She received her education at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1932 the school was renamed Thomas J. Elder High School in honor of her husband.
