- Sandersville, 1925. Interior of Jackson School which was located two miles northwest of Riddleville. Even though the name of the school shown on the blackboard is Jackson High School, some of those students seen are of elementary school age. The eighth grade may have been the last grade in the school. Teachers, Roscoe McAndrews and his wife, Mary, are standing in the left background. Far left row, front to back: Raymond Tanner, Monroe May, Theo Davis, Caroll Holmes, Herbert Sheppard, Myrtle Garrett, Lillian Veal. Second row: Ida Grimes, Johnny Garrett, Ella Will May, Grace Holmes, Lora Sheppard, Martha Grimes. Third row: Arthur May, Harold Sheppard, Owen Garrett, Vernon Layton, Raymond Sheppard, Charlie Sheppard. Far right row: Edna Veal, Georgia Catherine Veal, Mary May, Ethel Sheppard, Henry Sheppard, Ernest Davis. The school burned circa 1966. The drawings on the blackboard at the right were done by student Vernon Layton. He achieved prominence in Georgia as an artist.
