- Sandersville, 1898. Members of the Florence Symphony gather on the Washington County Courthouse grounds for this photograph. The group was named for the daughter of Louis Cohen. The gazebo in the background served as a bandstand. Seated, left to right: Charlie Hendricks (president), Samford Adams, J. L. Greer, C. H. Summerlin, H. E. Cohen. Standing: Henry Whitaker, Paul McKinney, W.R. Lang, Harris Mathis, Lee Smith, C.B. Cooley, Gainer Summerlin, C. Adamson. Mr. Adamson was the instructor and bandleader. He had come from Sweden. The small boy behind the group is Gordon Chapman.
