- United States, 1939-1945. Barney Burson (right) playing checkers with Audie Murphy. Burson was from Gainesville, Ga. He served in Co. M, 119th Regiment Infantry which was part of the 30th division. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge. Murphy was born in Texas on June 20, 1924. He was the most decorated United States soldier in World War II. After the war he enjoyed a movie career. He died in an air crash on May 28, 1971.
