- LaGrange, Aug. 12, 1936. Gov. Eugene Talmadge on the campaign trail. Talmadge and his supporters are in a wagon. He is the one sitting and waving his hat. Talmadge was campaigning for the U.S. Senate seat held by Richard Brevard Russell, Jr. Russell beat Talmadge in the Democratic primary and went on to retain his seat. Note the stickers on the wagon which read, "Talmadge Kept His Promises."
