- LaGrange, April 30, 1886. Jefferson Davis, former President of the Confederacy, passing through LaGrange on his way from Mississippi to Atlanta. He was traveling by train to Atlanta to take part in the ceremonies at the unveiling of a monument to the late Benjamin Harvey Hill which was to take place on May 1st. Hill, who was from LaGrange, had served in the House and Senate of both the U.S. Congress and the Georgia General Assembly. Mr. Davis is the man with white hair standing at the back of the train under the two flags.
