- Thomasville, Oct. 1924. "Uncle" Steve Eberhart with guinea hens at a Confederate veterans reunion. Eberhart was a slave who accompanied his owner in the Civil War. Later he was valet to Henry Grady at the University of Georgia. He then moved to Rome where he became the mascot of the Confederate veterans there. He dressed up as seen here with flags, feathers, hens, etc. and attended Confederate veteran reunions as often as possible.
