- Cuthbert, ca. 1947. Left to right: Doctor Robert Martin III, Doctor Job Caldwell Patterson, and Doctor Walter Gus Elliott. These were the three doctors associated with Patterson Hospital from ca. 1940 on. The present hospital was leased to them on its completion in July of 1947. It was operated privately until the fall of 1961 when it came under the direction of the Hospital Authority of Randolph County. Doctor Patterson was the nephew of Doctor Frederick Davis Patterson who established the hospital in January of 1916.
