- Cuthbert. Fletcher Hamilton Henderson (1857-1943) was the son of slaves. He spent much of his childhood in South Carolina. He attended Newberry College and later Atlanta University. He came to Cuthbert to take charge of Howard Normal School which was associated with the American Missionary Association. Over the years the number of students and teachers increased and the school was expanded. Around 1923 when a new building was erected the name was changed to Randolph County Training School.
