- Description:
- Springvale, ca. 1970s. Farm bell hanging on a pole outside the home at Deer Creek Farms. Bells such as this one date from the early 1800s and some were in use until the middle 1930s. The farmer's wife would ring the bell to let her husband and the workers know that meals were ready. The bell might also be rung to send the workers back to the fields after a meal. The bell could be rung to summon help in the case of emergencies.
