- (Philadelphia, Pa.), 1910. Claud Lester Derrick of Clayton, Ga. poses for a photograph in the baseball uniform of the Philadelphia Athletics. He was a member of the team when in 1910 it won the American League Championship as well as the World Series under manager Connie Mack. Derrick was a graduate of the University of Georgia who went on to play major league baseball. During his career that spanned 11 years, he played with other teams including the New York Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles. He later became a businessman in Clayton. In March 1957 his name was added to the University of Georgia Hall of Fame. It is said that he was the first player from the University of Georgia to play major league baseball.
