- Description:
- Rabun Gap, ca. 1910. Students at Rabun Gap Industrial School pose for a photograph in front of the school's first building. The school was founded by Andrew Jackson Ritchie and opened in 1905. Both day and boarding students received an education in academic and industrial subjects. Early in 1926 fire destroyed this main building. Shortly thereafter, fire destroyed almost all of Nacoochee Institute in neighboring White County. Since the schools were similar, it was decided to merge them and build a larger plant at Rabun Gap. It was known as Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School.
