- Mountain City, ca. 1970. Terry (with hat)and Joseph Dickerson starting a fire under an iron pot while students watch. This is part of the process in making tar from pine knots. The site is the headquarters of the Foxfire Fund, Inc. The Foxfire learning concept began in 1966 with the founding of Foxfire, a monthly magazine published by public school students in Rabun County. It has expanded over the years to include a variety of projects in which students discover, document, and preserve their cultural heritage.
