- Mountain City, ca. 1970. Terry and Joseph Dickerson and students watch pine knots burning in an iron pot at the headquarters of the Foxfire Fund, Inc. This was a process to make tar from the knots. The Foxfire learning concept began in 1966 with the founding of Foxfire, a monthly magazine published by public school students in Rabun County. It has expanded over the years to include a variety of projects in which students discover, document, and preserve their cultural heritage.
