- Polk County, 1901. Stone crushing operations as construction on the powerhouse at Southern States Cement Company gets underway. The cement plant was built in 1901 and the first barrel of cement was produced in January of 1902. R.H. Mintz, Senior is seen in the window at far left. Note the other workmen. This plant is now owned by Marquette Cement Manufacturing Company.
