- Forsyth, ca. 1969. Dr. Carey Vinzant (1904-1980). He served as president of Bessie Tift College from 1952-1969. The school chartered in 1849 as Forsyth Female Collegiate Institute is now known as Tift College. Under Dr. Vinzant's term the physical plant of the school was increased four fold.
2003/07/09: Tift College merged with Mercer University in 1986. With the merger, Mercer promised to uphold the heritage and ideals of the original Tift College. Mercer University maintains a Tift College alumni office. - External Identifiers:
