- Description:
- Meriwether County, winter 1896. McGehee-Crowder home located between Greenville and Durand. It was built ca. 1845-1850 by Reverend Thomas Franklin McGehee. When Reverend McGehee died in 1876, the house was purchased by James C. Crowder. Members of the Crowder family are seen standing in front of the house in this photograph. Left to right: Betty Render Crowder Parham (Mrs. Robert Stith) and her first child, Susie, Render L. Crowder, Susan Jennett Render Crowder (Mrs. James C.), Jennie Lou Crowder, Ella Gray Crowder Ogletree (Mrs. James Frank), Robert Scott Crowder. The blacks seen in the right background had come up to the house for the hog killing. Note the snow; it had snowed the night before the photograph was taken. Also note the boxwood.
