- Description:
- McDuffie County, Feb. 14, 1978. Richard Crabb (right) interviewing C.W. Herndon (left) about the DC-7 airplane containing marijuana which was found abandoned at the McDuffie-Thomson Airport. Mr. Herndon was at this time an agent for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Mr. Crabb was a reporter for Channel 12 TV in Augusta, Georgia. The DC-7 containing 21 tons of marijuana landed at this location because it had run out of fuel. The smugglers escaped by stealing a private airplane. The confiscated marijuana, which was said to be worth $21 million on the street, came from Colombia, South America.
