- McDuffie County, Feb. 14. 1978. DC-7 airplane at the McDuffie-Thomson Airport. The airplane contained 21 tons of marijuana from Colombia, South America. The airplane had run out of fuel and had landed at this location. The smugglers abandoned the airplane and escaped by stealing a private airplane. The confiscated marijuana was said to be worth $21 million on the street.
