- Description:
- Thomson, ca. 1947. Workers at the Knox Brothers Lumber Company located on Railroad Street hold two 2" x 12" boards that have just been joined between metal plates by using the hydro air engineering press seen to the left of the board. This was a step in the manufacture of prefabricated homes. The company, begun in 1932, was one of the first in the area to build prefabricated homes. An assembly line process was used to manufacture pieces of the homes. Later the firm was purchased by National Homes. Lawrence, Robert E., Wyke A., and Peter S. Knox, Junior were the owners of the business.
